Dear Chinese Orchestra members,
New Practice Timing:
The Chinese Orchestra practice timing have been changed for the coming year, to better align with the new timetable. The new dates and timings of traning session are shown below.

Every Monday- 2pm to 5.30 pm at AVA room (Combined Orchestra)

Every Friday- 1.30pm to 5pm at Classrooms (Sectional Practice)

Additional Practices for C'est La Vie and SYF:

There will be two major performances coming up early this year, namely C'est La Vie in March and Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) in April. C'est La Vie is a binnial school performance that will involve all our Performing Arts CCAs and will be held at Republic Poly on 12 March 2011. Singapore Youth Festival is a compeition for secondary schools in Singapore to be recongized and awarded for their performance in various CCAs. The SYF performance for our Chinese Orchestra will be held on 19-21 Apeil 2011 (actual date to be confirmed)

To better hone for students' skills and maximise their potential in playing songs for these two upcoming events, there will be additional practices held on selected Saturday mornings till the SYF performance in April. Further notice will be given when the dates of Saturday practices have been confirmed. The first practice will fall on the following date:

29 Jan 2011 - 8.30am to 12pm at Classroom and AVA Theatre (Sectional and Combined practice)

SYF Rehearsal:

There is a SYF Rehearsal session scheduled in early Feburary at Singapore Conferene Hall. This is to allow students to familiarize themselves with the actual performance venue and entry and exit procedures by rehearsaing the songs there. The ate and timing of Rehearsal session is shown below

1st Feb 2011 - 1.45pm-3.30pm at Singapore Conference Hall (SYF Rehearsal)

Note: students will be dismissed from lessons at 12pm and will return to school at about 4.30pm

Activities during practice sessions:

Apart from trainig during the practice sessions, there will be some activities held during the breaks so that students can relax with some refreshments as well as take the opportunity to bond with the other members and celebrate with the festivities together. the activities are

Hi everyone,

Some of us been to give our support to Alex in July this year. Alex and her CO had showed us that we can actually perform M-Pop using chinese instruments. Well, of coz I cant expect we immediatley to make our 1st huge performance. However we can work towards this goal. Our aim is to collaborate with another Secondary School CO to have a SYF 2011 Camp soon. We'll have our concert shortly after the camp. This can be done in about 1 year time. I hope we can work towards this goal as ONE UNITED SSCO.

Alex (a.k.a cuien) is having a concert at the Esplanade on 12 July (Sun), 3pm to 4pm & it is FOC. Please go for the concert & give her your fullest support !!! She & NYP CO will be playing lots of chinese pop songs from various singers like Zhang Hui Mei, Jay Chou, Stephanie Sun, song from the Little Nyonya show & many more. She emphasised that the main thing is not to support her, but to let you all see that the songs that CO plays are not only old songs, but also pop songs. So, please appreciate her thought & go for the concert. (: She will inform us on how we get the tickets at a later time. My Dear CO babies,

I know the process of preparing SYF was tough and tomorrow is going to be our big day. I had sleepless nights since early this April because I kept dreaming about all of you all practising in my dream. The stressing & pressurised atmosphere made all of us cried like mad. Students complaint that (1) they can't complete their homework, (2) they failed their tests, (3) their projects can't hand in on time, (4) their parents nagged at them etc...

I am also stressed with these problems, (1) my co members didn't have time to complete homework/projects, (2) my co members failed their tests, (3) my co members' parents complaint about their child spending too much time on CCA, (4) discipline issue with some students, (5) managements issue, (6) shortage of money to buy new instruments / to employ new instructors, (7) lack of logistic supports, (8) lack of space to store instruments, (9) lack of space to practice, (10) students' punctuallity issue, (11) students' attitude & commitment & many more...

But I know I have all students support. You all are the one who make me laugh, smile & cry the most. With all your help in CO, our CO expanded from the size of about 25 students to current 45. With instruments initially only er hu, zhong ruan, sheng & di zi; now we have da ruan, timpani, vibrophone, Luo & wind chime. We have to squeeze into Learning Centre & share with Guzheng, now we have 1 store room in Level 4. I will always do my best to ensure everyone in CO to is well taken care of. Students first, Teacher the Key has always been my motto.

My aim is to expand SSCO further. However, I really need all your help. Your help to do your best in your SYF tomorrow. Whether we are getting any award is not the issue now, we need to perform our best. Of course, it will be a better if we can get at least a bronze, best is a silver.

Well, please don't feel to nervous tomorrow. I will be there with you all. Just do your best to perform. Take it as a normal performance.

There will be a CO camp this week.It will be both Friday 17 th April and Saturday 18th April.It will be a 2 day 1 night camp.This camp is compulsory. If you are not able to turn up or stay overnight, you must tell either Mr Chiang or Miss Dai your reason.
Consent form for the camp will be issued to you.
For Friday, please take note that the reporting time is 2.30pm. We will start practice at 3pm.

There will be a full dress rehearsel for this Wednesday15 th April and Saturday 18th April.
Do not forget that we will be taking our NAFA test together on Thursday 16th April.

To the outsiders, the improvements you guys made

but to the members ,
we all know,it's not little.
Arguement, quarrel ,we all had.
But are you guys going to let these affect all of us ?

It's a big question marks for some of us .
But one thing for sure is,
everyone of us are hoping for a bronze,
and if possible,silver.

With no teamwork,

Hey members!

Dont be despair !
Some of your are sad about not being able to pull enough people.
While some are sad about not being able to persuade the sec1s to join us,
when you guys had nearly suceed in pulling them,but another grp of cca came over
and "snatch" them away from your hand.

I understand that kind of feeling (Cos i got REJECTED by the last year sec1s for over 20times!And some of the other[....]just came and snatch them away from my hand!!! Grr! ), but life have to go on! AND I EVEN SHED A TEAR!!!!!Because...Someone dropped my flute and the corner broke into pierces! ;( Okay, i know that's super duper dot dot dot . ;D

And you guys especially the Dizi and Erhu members are upset that you guys
couldn't perform as well as last time ,and you guys played some wrong notes and caused some of the sec1s to lose interest in C.O

BUT do remember,
Musicians do make mistake.

Want to mend it?

YOU CAN DO IT!

Simply,
Do WELL in CLV AND SYF.
Achieve the minimum BRONZE for our school!
And Not only u can mend the hole, but ALSO, Be proud of urself!
And naturally, YOU will attract the attentions of the sec1s!

School is definately hectic & lethargic for the sec4s,
So sec3s and 2s,
Show your potential & leadership quality
and assist their work,
YOU may have a chance to hold on some leadership position if Mr chiang sees YOU
showing the leadership quaility!

For thoes future president and Vice president,
Do help the current P and VP.
Assist them,and ask them what you need to do when u hold on to this poisition.
Do learn from them!
Cause, YOU are the one that is going to hold this IMPORTANT position!

AND !
Are you guys always making Mr Chiang to worry ,angry and upset ?
Then....
Play well!
Be united !
Ask him what YOU can do for him

Hey ya all !

Just a short notice , there'll be self prac next week.
Date: 16-18 dec .
Time: 10am , and you must practice for at least 3 hrs before you can go home .

But of course if you wanna stay and practice more you can !
Just needa stay for at least 3 hrs .
& There'll be a break for 1hr in between .
So total you need to stay for at least 4hrs ar :D

CO FUND .
a collection of 27$$ is needed BY 22th DEC .
12$ is for CO fund from Jan to June ,
15$ is for the CO shirt .
Remember to pay it to yeeling by 22dec !

Okays people , our CO shirt design is done !

It costs around 20$,
But we wont collect full amount because there's still some CO fund left.
I need your sizes by this week . Tag or sms me, (sms would be better) .

For girl's cutting , PE t-shirt size SS = Polo tee size L
For guy's cutting , PE t-shirt size is the SAME as Polo tee size.

However the max size for girl's is PE shirt S size, Polo tee XL.
So for those who are exceeding that size,
you need to take the guy's cutting XS or bigger if you want.

NOTICE:

The pink you see over there is not accurate.

The outcome will be in HOTPINK.
